Foxconn Baja California facility in Tijuana recently hosted “The Medical Device Industry Evening” where the company announced the expansion of its electronic manufacturing services into the medical device market to local authorities and industry representatives.
Now fully operational, the expansion includes a new clean room that will permit the company to streamline their medical device assembly operations.
Foxconn Baja California, located in Tijuana, is part of Taiwan based Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, LTD one of the largest electronics contract manufacturers in the world and one of Fortune´s Global 500. The plant has been operating in Tijuana for more than 25 years, but in 2010 Foxconn acquired the operation from Sony and established Foxconn Baja California. Currently it is one of the largest manufacturing companies in Tijuana, employing approximately 4,500 people.
The operation offers advanced electronic manufacturing capabilities and integrates added value services such as prototypes and pilot runs, pre-production, long runs, mechanical, electrical and software engineering, clean room and test laboratory facilities.
Over its 25 years of experience – the last six under Foxconn – the plant has walked the path of quality assurance and operational excellence, achieving industry certifications such as ISO 9000, ISO 14000 and a preliminary certification for ISO 13485 to handle the medical device industry’s needs.
With the recent expansion announcements of iconic companies such as Becton Dickinson and Fisher & Paykel, Tijuana´s medical device industry is strengthening its competitive advantage by providing established firms with a sophisticated manufacturing platform to develop and manufacture their products and, even more importantly, distribute them to over 40 different countries through Mexico´s trade agreements network.
