Tijuana to Host 43th Maquiladora National Convention in November

INDEX Convención tamaño Media Carta (inglés)The 43rd INDEX National Convention will take place on November 16 -18, 2016, in the Baja Center. The event is alligned with the 50th anniversary of manufacturing industry in Mexico.

 

In celebration of the country’s manufacturing industry 50th anniversary, the National Board of the Maquiladora Industry and Export Manufacturing (known as INDEX in Spanish) announced its 43th National Convention to take place in Tijuana, Mexico´s manufacturing powerhouse.

Over 800 participants are axpected to attend this year´s convention, incluiding representatives of the three leves of government, key manufacturing firms, board members of the 21 index associations in the republic, industry´s suppliers, potential investors, as well as binational business organizations.

“This year´s program features workshop presentations, conference program to deliver insights across a variety of key industrial sectors, networking sessions with desition makers of manufacturing companies offering enhanced business opportunities” said Federico Serrano, national president of the National Association of the Maquiladora and Export Manufacturing Industry (Index).

Tijuana EDC will support Index in promoting the event to invite potential suppliers to the industry, and facilitatating business services at no cost to companies interested in establish a manufacturing operation in the region or looking for manufacturing services in Mexico.

Cristina Hermosillo, President of the Tijuana EDC mentioned that this major event will bring the perfect opportunity to present to Mexico´s industrial community the business ties developed by Tijuana and San Diego. “Our economic integration, cross border dinamics, and a deep understanding of each other´s business culture, are the pillars for our regional competitiveness and co-innovation”.

Case studies on binational manufacturing operations, the cooperation between binational business organizations, and infrastructure projects in the binational region will be included as discussion topics in conferences and panels.

As Mexico’s most experienced manufacturing center, Tijuana is home to the largest concentration of manufacturing firms in the country, with 594 currently operating firms as of June 2016, and the 2nd concentration of industry´s worforce in the country. In addition Tijuana holds the largest aerospace and defense cluster in Mexico and the most robust and experienced medical device cluster in the country which boasts to hold the largest concentration ef medical device jobs in North America.
